Attica presents The WAW Gathering

4th and 5th of October

29/08/2014

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: Ben Shewry is throwing a party, and you're invited. The WAW Gathering (it's a peaceful meeting, but it's pronounced "war") is a weekend of food and fun sprung from Attica, the restaurant in the suburbs of Melbourne that Shewry and his team have led to international recognition. It's about cooking as much as it is eating, about playing as much as it is working, and listening as much as talking. Plus, there's a very exciting group of cooks, artists and speakers from around the globe on board to get the party started right.

The WAW part of the caper stands for "What a Wonderful World". "I know it sounds a bit corny, but I think it's really important to stay open: eyes, heart and mind, to the world around you," Shewry says. "I'd like this gathering to be a time when people can check out for a moment; stop, talk and take their bearings and think about what we're all doing, whether it's as chefs, winemakers, diners, or whatever it is we do."

WAW Gives
A Charity Lunch

WAW Gives will be a lunch sourced from the goodwill of others to help the less fortunate. Ten courses prepared by 30 exceptional chefs makes this event one never seen in Australia before. The chefs will be cooking together in teams spread out around the sprawling landscape of Rippon Lea house and gardens. The guests will be guided down grassy paths, up rocky steps and through the history of the estate eating and drinking along the way.

The profits will go to Helping Hoops www.helpinghoops.com.au, a charity that teaches life-skills to underprivileged children through basketball. Expect to see on the pans Isaac McHale (The Clove Club, London), Daniel Patterson (Coi, San Francisco), David Thompson (Nahm, Bangkok), Ben Greeno (Momofuku Seiobo, Sydney), Peter Gilmore (Quay, Sydney) and Attica's Ben Shewry. Ben Shewry Supports Helping Hoops

Help him raise funds for this fantastic Melbourne charity

16/05/2014

Hi there! I'm Chef Ben Shewry: a full time cook, father of 3 and the coach of my son Kobe's basketball team - the Red Dragons. I know first hand the positive difference basketball can make in the lives of children, as a vehicle for teaching them the value of team work, confidence, self-esteem and working hard.

Not all children are as fortunate as Kobe though, and that's where the inspiring charity Helping Hoops comes in. By attending their weekly sessions I've witnessed first hand the good they do in our community and how much they genuinely help and care for the children they teach.

On Saturday the 5th July I'm taking part in the 24-hour charity shootout by shooting free throws to help raise money for Helping Hoops. Check out their brilliant work at www.helpinghoops.com.au

I'd appreciate any support you can offer; even the smallest donation makes a difference! Donations can be made below at my Everyday Hero page.

In addition I'm also offering some one-of-a-kind experiences to thank people for their generous donations.

Saturday Lunch in the Lab

Make a donation of $5,000 to Helping Hoops and in return receive the opportunity to join me and my team in our newly opened test kitchen/lab for a 5 course lunch for you and five of your friends.
We will be demonstrating and telling the stories of these 5 dishes right before your eyes, followed by a personal tour of Attica's Ripponlea gardens with me as your guide. Don't miss the opportunity to be the first to taste Attica's newest creations, fresh from the lab.

Ben Shewry cooks at your house

Make a donation of $10,000 to Helping Hoops and in return my team and I will prepare an intimate 8 course tasting menu in the comfort of your home for 10 people with matched fine wines selected by our sommelier Banjo Harris Plane.

Enjoy some of Attica's signature dishes, hear my tales of the restaurant from the past 8 years and put your feet up while we take care of everything.
To reserve either of these amazing experiences or for further information please contact Kylie at meet@attica.com.au or phone +61 3 95300111

Thanks for your support in helping me raise much-needed funds by donating as much as you can and improving the lives of less fortunate children in our communities here in Melbourne.

Origin - The Food of Ben Shewry

Ben Shewry's recently released book

10/11/2012

Attica is proud to announce the release of Ben Shewry's first book - Origin.

A combination of personal history, memory, ideology and of course a collection of Ben's recipes, it is an insight into his life as well as detailing some of Attica's dishes.

Ben describes it like so -
"It's not a straightforward cookbook, and it's not really a restaurant book either. There's a lot of my family in there, and storytelling is a huge part of my family's heritage - telling real-life stories about what has been happening to us is something we've always done for entertainment - and so I wanted to bring some of that to it. So really it's the story of my journey to where I am now."

The book retails for AU$95.00, and signed copies are available from the restaurant.

Champagne

To celebrate the small, the unremembered, the unusual and the hidden

22/06/2011

We are thrilled at Attica to be serving one of the great grower Champagnes of the world by the glass over the winter period.

Olivier Collin is a small yet determined grower, crafting uniquely powerful wines from incredible vineyards in the far south of Champagne.

The 2006 dégorgement of his Blanc de Blancs is a study in controlled power. The wine is rested on lees in barrels purchased from Jean-François Coche-Dury in Meursault, then bottled without dosage. It combines a richness of texture with incredible minerality and an overall sense of freshness.

A miniature masterpiece that we are proud to showcase.
